Modules three & four had a lot of interesting facts that I felt would be useful to me and my life. I knew a lot of the information, but I did not know the back story to why it is used and how it is used. I would like to begin with the topic of engine databases. Please read on to see how these effects will affect my life in the future or while I am going to college to receive a degree.
While doing a search on the internet, I did not know that you could put in additional information to make the search results go from millions to thousands. For example, when I went in to do some of the practice tasks, I was able to see it happen in real time. For instance; looking up information on a topic and you do not want millions of web sites with not so much un-useful information inside you can actually just ask for a pdf format by adding filetype and if you want this information to come from a particular location you can add site:wired.com as an example. The module went on to teach the terms of spider, Meta tag, landing page, and search query and their meanings. I have not heard those words or phrases prior to reading the module.
While reading further into the module, I was shocked at how you can make your search results go from several million down to less than a hundred by adding one, two or all primary logical operators to your search. AND, OR, and NOT are powerful words in the World Wide Web (WWW). Now I would like to talk about the three different search engines we spoke about through these modules: Mozilla Firefox, Yahoo, and Google. These search engines only look throughout their own database during searches. I did not know this; I thought all looked throughout the entire world full of information.
The final part of information that stuck with me throughout the reading was how it spoke about Audio, Visual, and Digital Libraries. This was amazing to me on how the music is saved can lessen the space taken up. As for copyright laws spoken about, there are a lot of laws out there that can be broken. You must be careful about how you show, describe, and search for information; it is best to think freely and use your own inventive mind to achieve your goals.
